A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and the counsel representing the publisher of Sahara Reporters’, Omoyele Sowore, has said that the State Security Services (SSS) has apologized to Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja for invading her court.

Describing the press statement released by the SSS over the re-arrest of his client in court premises on Friday, December 6, as self-contradictory, Femi Falana said, the secret police succeeded in desecrating the hallowed chamber.

Premium Times reports that Falana in a statement released on Sunday, December 8, said the SSS is pretending to forget that all the drama at the court during the invasion was recorded on live videos by both local and international media.

Falana said after being challenged for denying knowledge of an invasion into the court presided over by Justice Ojukwu by the SSS, the lead prosecutor, Liman Hassan, apologised to the judge on behalf of the SSS.

The senior lawyer said: “When challenged to justify the invasion of the court the officer could not. He apologised to Justice Ojukwu on behalf of the SSS.”

“The judge then directed the officer to withdraw the sss operatives from the courtroom. The directive was complied with as the operatives withdrew from the courtroom but rushed out to join their colleagues who had taken over the entire courthouse,” Falana said.

He said that some of the journalists who covered the incident were also direct victims of the gangsterism and brutalisation displayed by officers of the SSS.

The senior lawyer added that the claim by the SSS that Sowore stage-managed his re-arrest to give the service a bad name is self-contradictory holding the fact that officers of the same secret police succeeded in arresting his client “outside the court”, despite the “stage managing” argument.
